Brisbane Tramway Museum

The Museum is located at Ferny Grove.

Founded in 1968 and opened to the public in 1980, the Brisbane Tramway Museum was born from a desire to preserve Brisbane’s tramway legacy. Nowadays, it operates as a not-for-profit, volunteer-run institution driven by education, preservation, and public engagement.

The Museum is located at 50 Tramway Street, Ferny Grove, next door to the Bowls Club.

Opening Hours

The Brisbane Tramway Museum is open Sunday afternoons from
12:30 to 4pm and by special arrangement for events and groups. 

It’s recommended that you allow about 2 hours to fully enjoy all that the museum has to offer. Please note that the Museum remains closed in wet weather for operational reasons.

Museum Entry Costs

All entry costs are paid on arrival. Admission includes unlimited tram rides on the day.
Souvenirs and cold drinks are available in the office/shop, and there are picnic tables on the grounds to enjoy.

Mission Statement

The Brisbane Tramway Museum aims to collect, preserve and display the history of Brisbane’s electric public street transport system from 1895 to 1969 in a developing operating museum. This is for the benefit of the public, in a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment.
